The Cavit Building, also known as the Jubilee Building, was built in the late 1800’s and has been the site for the Blind Foundation since the early 1900’s. The Blind Foundation is New Zealand’s main provider of support for the 12,100 Kiwi’s who are blind or visually impaired.

Project Description
CHALLENGES
It was important to the Blind Foundation and the project specifiers/contractors that the significant structural repairs required, did not impair the visual integrity of this historic building.
PROJECT REQUIREMENTS
As part of a major refurbishment, this historic building had to be seismic strengthened to meet current regulations. As part of this project, the refurbishment designers included an internal structural steel frame and concrete remedials.
SikaWrap® carbon fibre wrap was specified as support for the perimeter walls as well as over other critical areas as required. Prior to the installation of SikaWrap® carbon fibre strengthening, Sikadur® epoxy repair and injection products were used to repair various cracks and floor damage.
