Fanshawe Street Carpark

The Fanshawe Street carpark is a 4-level carpark owned and operated by Auckland Transport. At the rear of the carpark is a historically significant basalt sea wall which dates back to when this was Auckland’s original shoreline.

In 2017 Auckland Transport commissioned a Seismic Assessment of the Fanshawe Street Carpark, which concluded significant structural upgrades were required to improve the likely level of seismic performance of the carpark.

In addition, traffic and safety barriers throughout the carpark were upgraded to ensure compliance with current regulations.

The Fanshawe Street carpark is directly adjacent to the Auckland Council Customer Service Centre on Graham Street. Because of this, it is an extremely busy carpark, used by both council staff and members of the public. A requirement from the client was to minimise disruptions to the day-to-day operations of the carpark while the work as being done. This required project and site-specific traffic management plans to be in operation throughout the duration of the works.

The carpark is located on one of the busiest streets in the Auckland CBD, especially during the morning and evening rush-hours. A large volume of concrete, reinforcing steel and traffic barriers were required throughout the project. Co-ordinating the deliveries which including concrete trucks and mobile concrete pumps was required to minimise the disruption to the traffic on Fanshawe Street.
