Project Description

Takapuna Grammar School is a co-ed state school on Auckland’s North Shore. Built-in grand style in 1927, the main two-story block and tower block needed extensive concrete repairs and refurbishment work.

Classrooms in the main block had not been used for nearly two years because of leaks and the need for structural strengthening. Once restored, the main block included an upgraded administration area, school hall and 20 revamped classrooms.

CHALLENGES

  • Because of the scale and complexity of the project, considerable on-site monitoring and assistance by Sika was essential
  • Many contractors were working on-site at the same time, so delivery logistics were sometimes a challenge
  • Skilled applicators were essential to apply the Sika products safely and correctly

PROJECT REQUIREMENTS

Many areas of the building needed restoration including beams, girders, columns and slabs.

The project required special products that were not only best suited for the critical tasks necessary, but also to stop water leakage around the structures.
